Borouge, a joint venture between the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and Borealis, a leading provider of chemical and plastics solutions, inaugurated the Borouge Undergraduate Scholarship programme by signing agreements with the South China University of Technology of Guangzhou and the East China University of Science and Technology of Shanghai. The Borouge Undergraduate Scholarship and the Borouge International Scholarship for postgraduates are aimed at encouraging students to excel in polymer sciences and engineering and were officially introduced during a media conference at the recently held Chinaplas exhibition on May 19, 2009. These eminent universities in Shanghai and Guangzhou have been selected for their leading edge education in plastics and polymer engineering disciplines.
According to the press statement, up to fifteen undergraduates students from each university annually will be eligible for a Borouge Undergraduate Scholarship. The study scholarships will be awarded on the basis of an individual's academic achievements. In addition, each year, the top one or two Borouge Undergraduate Scholarship students in each university will receive an additional two weeks' training at Borouge to enhance their understanding and to provide them with hands-on experience in an innovative plastics environment. In addition, the company will offer a generous postgraduate International Scholarship, offering a restricted number of high performing students the opportunity to further their Master or Doctoral studies. This International Scholarship would be the crème de la crème of the programme which graduating students will be strongly motivated to gain.
