Borouge, a leading provider of innovative, value creating plastics solutions, has partnered with two prestigious Indian educational institutes to provide scholarships to high-performing students of polymer science and engineering.
Borouge Undergraduate Scholarships will be granted to 12 selected students at the Institute of Chemical Technology (UDCT/UICT) in Mumbai and in addition, a Borouge Fellowship will be awarded to a postgraduate Masters student at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) in New Delhi.
The announcement coincides with Borouge's celebrations of 10 years in India. Borouge, a joint venture between the Abu Dhabi National Oil Company (ADNOC) and Borealis, a leading provider of chemical and plastics solutions, is at the forefront of next generation plastics innovations in Asia and the Middle East.
"Borouge has been actively committed to its customers throughout India since the company's inception a decade ago," comments Pushp Raj Singhvi, Managing Director of Borouge (India). "We are delighted to be able to mark the 10th anniversary of Borouge in India with the signing of scholarship agreements with two eminent institutions firmly focused on developing India's next generation of scientists and engineers."
The Borouge Undergraduate Scholarships and the Borouge Fellowship aim to encourage students to excel in the fields of polymer sciences and engineering. Awarded on the basis of an individual's academic achievements, the programme provides financial assistance to the students. In addition, up to two of the top students are invited to receive additional training at Borouge to enhance their understanding of the polymer industry and provide them with hands-on experience in an innovative plastics environment.
"Borouge launched its student scholarships with a clear objective in mind: to help countries to build a strong plastics industry where motivated and highly-talented individuals are encouraged in their pursuit of innovation," comments William Yau, CEO of Borouge's Marketing Company. "We introduced scholarships at two eminent universities in China, the East China University of Science and Technology in Shanghai and the South China University of Technology in Guangzhou, earlier this year and now with these two scholarships agreements in India we are proud to encourage even more students to make a positive contribution to the region's rapidly emerging plastics markets."
The IIT in New Delhi, North India offers the highest level of engineering education in India with 4,931 students in total. The UDCT/UICT in Mumbai is India's premier chemical engineering school and top chemical sciences institute with approximately 900 undergraduate students.
Both belong to a group of thirteen top autonomous engineering and technology-oriented institutes of higher education established by Government of India, covering 15,500 undergraduates across the country.
