BP plans to expand in China

28-Sep-05
Ethylene production in China in 2004 was 6.7 million metric tons, while demand was 16 million tons - a supply shortfall of over 50%. BP Plc, Europe's biggest oil company, plans to expand petrochemical production in China to tap surging demand. BP plans to more than double the size of its existing plant, to build the largest petrochemical plant of its type in China's southern province of Guangdong by late 2007. The low-emissions purified terephthalic acid production line will have a capacity of 900,000 metric tpa, more than double the existing 350,000 tons capacity.
