Munich-based Hans Brunner GmbH, one of the world's leading manufacturers of moulds for the chocolate industry, recently invested in 2,300 tonne MX machine from KraussMaffei to produce even larger chocolate moulds from injection moulded plastic. Chocolate moulds are often manufactured in small batches - of usually less than 2,000 articles - and will typically be in use for just one season. For instance, moulds for chocolate Easter rabbits. Brunner specialists have developed around 25,000 different tooling sets, contributing to the company's high reputation as a specialist for smaller batches. In addition to chocolate moulds, Brunner's varied product portfolio currently includes products for the medical and laboratory technology segment and for the automotive industry, together with ice-cream scoops and containers for the most diverse uses. Brunner is now focussing on challenging applications such as making transparent products and processing polycarbonate.
In early 2009, Brunner's new 2,300-tonne MX injection moulding machine from KraussMaffei went into operation. "This means a lot more to us than simply a capacity expansion," points out Markus Gebhart, one of the managing partners, "it's also an investment in the future of the company. The machine is equipped with a laser marker and a scale as part of the quality documentation system. The handling robot contributes to stable, operator-friendly production. Our company is experiencing steady growth and the new machine will enable us to open up new application areas."
