Complaint lodged against decision to ban single-use polyethylene retail carrier bags in Italy

10-Jan-11
A leading plastics trade association in Europe- The European Plastics Converters (EuPC), has lodged a complaint against Italy's decision to ban single-use polyethylene retail carrier bags, with effect from 1 January 2011, as per PlasticsNews. As per EuPC statement, "This initiative of the Italian National government is a short-sighted view which does not take into account the existence of [European Union] legislation and the fact that traditional plastic packaging is recyclable and reusable. We have lodged a complaint against this ban with the European Commission and we shall make every effort to challenge this legislation from a legal point of view."
