Cracker shutdown compels Formosa to defer over 1 mln tons of naphtha

01-Jul-11
Formosa Petrochemical Corp. has deferred over 1 million metric tons of naphtha imports because of the shutdown of one of its crackers, as per ICIS. A cargo of at least 600,000 tons of naphtha for delivery between July and August, originally scheduled to be delivered between the end of May and June, has been deferred. A date of restart at Cracker No.1 has not been fixed, while Formosa’s No. 2 cracker in Mailiao is currently running at 80% capacity. Also, Formosa plans to close its No. 3 naphtha cracker at Mailiao for maintenance in August.
