Downstream plant shutdowns bring down butadiene prices in Asia

26-Dec-08
Several downstream SBR, BR and ABS plants in China, Taiwan, South Korea and Japan have imposed production cutbacks or shutdowns. The resultant combination of deteriorating demand and mounting inventories has affected demand for feedstock butadiene. Sellers offers hovered around US$455-500/MT CFR NE Asia and US$500-555/MT CFR SE Asia. Buying ideas have declined to levels about 50 dollars lower, with deal conclusion at buyers' rates.
