EFSA accepts new monomer to list of monomers for plastics used in food packaging

20-Aug-09
The European Food Safety Authority (EFSA) has accepted the safety of Eastman Tritan copolyester. The opinion paves the way for the European Commission to amend Directive 2002/72/EC to add a key monomer used in Tritan to its list of acceptable monomers for the production of plastics intended for use in food packaging. A new-generation copolyester, Tritan delivers the advantages of traditional copolyesters, such as clarity and toughness, but also offers high-heat and chemical resistance, improved design flexibility, and ease of processing. It can be used in a broad range of applications, including small appliances, infant care products, housewares and certain medical devices.
