Robust economic growth in Asia coupled with good growth of plastics industry have lead to an increase in polymer consumption, triggered demand. In a move to enhance its manufacturing capability to respond to growth in demand, ExxonMobil Chemical has planned expansion at its' Singapore cracker. The Singapore Chemical Plant, ExxonMobil Chemical's single largest investment (US$2 billion) in the Asia Pacific, started up in 2001. Current ethylene capacity is at over 800,000 tpa. The expansion project will increase ethylene capacity by 75,000 tpa to more than 900,000 tpa, expected to be completed by the end of 2006.
Current Capacities at SCP:
800,000 tpa of ethylene
435,000 tpa of propylene
270,000 tpa of n-butylene
80,000 tpa of MTBE
480,000 tpa of polyethylene
315,000 tpa of polypropylene
400,000 tpa of paraxylene
150,000 tpa of benzene
150,000 tpa of oxo-alcohol
35,000 tpa of isopar
SCP is adjacent to and fully integrated with ExxonMobil's refinery on Jurong Island. The steam cracker uses primarily liquid feedstock ( naphtha) from the refinery and third parties. The plant's capacity to process feed is highly efficient, facilitating cost competitive production of olefins, polyolefins, oxo-alcohol, isopar and aromatics products.
