Faced with high prices, low density polyethylene users in Asia are switching to cheaper alternatives. As a result LDPE demand has come under pressure in Asia, as per Platts.
Currently, C6 [metallocene] LLDPE prices are half way between C4 [butane] LLDPE and LDPE prices. This is prompting buyers to switch to C6 LLDPE, particularly for multi-layer extrusion purposes, which includes packaging material. Converters typically use a combination of C4 LLDPE and LDPE for this application.
