Formosa Plastics declared a force majeure for polyethylene from its HDPE II production unit at Point Comfort, Texas, as a result of unexpected operational difficulties, according to a letter sent to customers and obtained by Platts. Sources said Formosa's HDPE II unit was down for maintenance Friday when a flash fire injured five workers. The force majeure covers its Formolene Polyethylene HDPE II products.
Industry sources said the biggest impact will likely be on the supply of high density polyethylene blowmolding. We are currently evaluating the impact of this event on our production capability and will provide additional information once we have assessed our ability to supply," according to the letter.
