After doubling LPG storage capacity to 100,000 metric tons, Taiwan’s Formosa Petrochemical Corp. has decided to increase the use of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) in the production of ethylene 15% of feedstock used. This totals to an increase of as much as 2 percentage points. With this move, the Taiwanese major that has 3 naphtha-processing plants with a combined annual capacity of 2.94 mln tons of ethylene, will reduce its dependence on naphtha as feedstock and cut costs. Currently, all the plants are operating at full capacity, because of increased demand for petrochemicals from its largest importer- China.
