Futura Polyesters develops monolayer PET

10-May-05
India's Futura Polyesters has developed a monolayer PET-based alloy which offers potential for carbon dioxide and oxygen barrier levels eighteen and nine times greater than simple PET respectively. Four Indian brewers are currently evaluating the material developed through this system for beer bottles. The process combines PET with PTN (polytrimethylene napthalate) to achieve performance that is targeted at beer packaging. A proprietary triggerable oxygen scavenger, added as a masterbatch, further enhances the shelf life of the product.
