The global aromatic chemicals demand stood at nearly 100 mln metric tons in 2013, and is expected to reach 125 mln metric tons by 2020. During this period, the prices of the aromatic chemicals could grow at a rate of 2 to 4%, as per Research and Markets. Among aromatic chemicals at global level, xylene recorded the highest demand growth of CAGR during 2006 to 2013. However in future, the demand growth for xylene is expected to slow down. The regional export and import patterns of aromatic chemicals are expected to change drastically, with a number of new petrochemical production facilities in the pipeline.
Some of the major production facilities in the pipeline include - PetroChina Sichuan Petrochemical Chengdu Complex in China, CJSC Vostochnaya Neftechimicheskaya Nakhodka Complex in Russia, Comperj Participacoes Itaborai Complex in Brazil, ONGC Dahej Complex in India and Abu Dhabi Al Taweelah Complex in United Arab Emirates.
