The matured markets for ethylene dichloride (EDC) in the developed countries of Western Europe and Northern America have seen slight declines during last 4-5 years. These markets add up little to the ethylene dichloride world market growth rates of 3.5-4%, which are primarily driven by high demand for the material on the markets on Asia, Central and Eastern Europe. EDC is closely following the trends of the fast growing PVC market. Substitution process of wood, glass and metal for PVC contributes largely to EDC consumption expansion. It is expected that with the shift from the obsolete PVC production carbide route to the technologies requiring ethylene dichloride in China will further lead EDC demand to much higher levels.
