Injection molding technology for micromolded medical components from PEEK

18-Aug-09
A special injection molding technology that allows to produce surgical instrument connector plugs in high-temperature polyetheretherketone (PEEK) material by using an only 2.8g shot weight has been developed by the German moldmaker and plastic converter Köbelin Formenbau GmbH. The firm has used a MTT Micro Moulder 12/90 micro-injection molding machine with an own-developed metering block to produce the parts. This metering block has been developed to suit for the use with a small-size tool (being 100 mm wide and 120 mm long). As for the micro-molding machine, it allows to produce thermoplastic parts with shot weights between 0.02g and 12g.
