Inspection of the site shortlisted by the state government for the proposed mega integrated petrochemical complex near Paradip is on the cards. A high-level team from the Centre will visit Orissa to inspect the land near the port-town in Jagtsinghpur district for the proposed complex at the Petroleum, Chemicals and Petrochemical Investment Region (PCPIR) to be developed at an investment of about Rs one lakh crore. The PCPIR is likely to be placed for cabinet approval after the visit of the central team.
Paradip is one of the six sites identified by the central government across the country for the development of PCPIR along with sites at Haldia-Nayachar in West Bengal, Dahej in Gujarat, Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh, Mangalore in Karnataka and Cuddalore-Nagapattam in Tamilnadu. Of these, the PCPIR has been approved in states of Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh and West Bengal.
