In a bid to meet the shortage of glass bottles in India, Manjushree Extrusions Ltd. has developed special plastic bottles for storing liquor. The company is in talks with a host of liquor manufacturers in India, including UB Group to introduce liquor in their PET (Poly Ethylene Terephthalate) bottles. A new manufacturing plant is being set up in Bangalore to manufacture 300 million PET bottles pa at an investment of Rs 10 crore. The plant will be operational by March 2010.
Packing of liquor in PET bottles will help them bring down their costs as the industry loses about 3-5% of its inventory due to breakage of glass bottles in transportation. PET bottles will also help in storing additional stocks in less space.
