Obama signs bill tackling US propane industry issues into law

22-Dec-14
A bill created in the aftermath of last winter's propane supply shortage was signed into law by President of USA, as per Platts. The bill, H.R. 5705, calls for new training for propane distributors and consumers on the ways they can avoid the effects of any propane price spikes and calls for the Department of Commerce to use new data to calculate consumer prices. The bill, sponsored by Representative Robert Latta, an Ohio Republican, was approved last week by the House of Representatives by a voice vote and in the Senate by unanimous consent. The Federal Energy Regulatory Commission in February invoked emergency powers under the Interstate Commerce Act to increase propane deliveries from Texas to the Midwest and Northeast.
