The Los Angeles, California-based Occidental Petroleum Corp. has proposed setting up of a new ethylene plant in Texas. In its application to the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Occidental said the construction for the plant in Ingleside near Corpus Christi would commence in December 2014 and the production would start in February 2017. The Texas plant would produce 1.2 bln lbs of ethylene pa and generate 123 jobs.
Occidental has become the latest to join the list of companies that are increasing their capacities to benefit from the booming shale gas supplies that would cut costs for US firms.
