Light, sweet crude for March delivery settled at US$44.3 a barrel on The Nymex. Price had dropped to US$43.5 a barrel by about 11 a.m., the lowest point since March 12, 2009. The front-month March contract for Brent crude settled at US$49.13 a barrel on London’s ICE Futures exchange.
