PET recycling rate in USA rose by 28% in 2009

The recycling rate of polyethylene terephthalate increased 28% in 2009 making it the six consecutive year of gains in the United States´ recycling rate, as per The National Association for PET Container Resources (NAPCOR). The 2009 rate increase occurred despite a 4% decrease in the total PET bottles and jars available for recycling, by weight. The 2009 Report also details the end uses for a record 937 million lbs of recycled PET utilized in manufacturing applications, reflecting strong increases over 2008 in sheet and film, food and beverage bottles, and non-food bottles end-use categories
