BNP Paribas, Calyon and HSBC have signed a US$145.7 mln loan with state oil group Petrovietnam to build a polypropylene unit near Dung Quat refinery- Vietnam's first oil refinery. The loan will fund construction of the factory, the engineering, procurement and construction contract of which was signed with a consortium including Hyundai Engineering.
The US$3 bln, 140,000 bpd Dung Quat refinery is scheduled to operate at full capacity by third week. Its output comprises of refined oil products including propylene. This will be the feedstock for an adjacent US$234 mln polypropylene plant.
