PolyOne creates set of color standards for automotive OEMs to improve color accuracy

12-Nov-08
PolyOne Corporation has recently created a set of color standards called the Working Color Plaques program in order to standardize automotive color requirements and allow automakers to gain higher color accuracy and consistency when sourcing parts from multiple processors. PolyOne application development engineers have worked in tandem with automotive manufacturers at the Company's Shanghai facility to start a process of standardizing and confirming the vehicle colors for plastic components. After these standards were approved by the OEM, PolyOne supplied color master plaques using the OEM's officially approved colorant formulas. From these master versions, PolyOne introduced working color plaques that can be used by Tier 1 and Tier 2 molders to check color accuracy during the molding process. The color standards when widely available will enhance the quality and color consistency of each vehicle, and will help to reduce waste at the processing level.
