Propylene pipeline leak in Mexico leaves five missing, thousands evacuated

A maintenance team cleaning and repairing a pipeline in the Gulf Coast state of Veracruz triggered an explosion and gas leak, leaving 5 people missing (presumed dead) and forced authorities to evacuate at least 2,000 residents from nearby homes. Workers from a private company hired by government oil monopoly Petroleos Mexicanos (Pemex), was to repair ducts along a pipeline containing propylene. Instead, they triggered a leak along an incorrect duct, releasing highly toxic ammonia. A subsequent explosion through the ammonia pipeline, has entrapped five workers.hey were likely killed by the toxic gases escaping all around them.
