Qatar Petrochemicals Co (Qapco)'s chemicals unit expects to benefit this year from higher production and higher prices for its products, drawing on rising demand in Asia.
After completion in August of its expansion project, ethylene output is estimated to rise about 38% this year to 720,000 tons from 520,000 tons. This capacity hike will be a result of US$230 mln expansion of the ethane cracker. A 10% hike is estimated in ethylene prices this year.
A rise in engineering, procurement and construction costs by 25-30% this year will lead to a hike in costs of its third low density polyethylene (LDPE) plant with 250,000 tpa, planned for next year.
