Qatofin has plans of a third and final EPC plant package for the US$2 billion petrochemicals project. The company plans to issue an invitation-to-bid (ITB) by the end of the month for its 450,000 tpa linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) plant. Qatofin is expected to set an April closing date for unpriced commercial bids with the commercial bids due in June. A selection is expected in August. The pre-qualifiers for the Qatofin EPC package now include US-based Bechtel, Japan's Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Italy's Snamprogetti and Germany's Linde.
The project includes construction of a 1.3 million tpa cracker at Ras Laffan and a 750,000 tpa high density polyethylene (HDPE) and normal alpha olefin capacity by Qatar Chemical Company (Q-Chem II).
