Taiwan's Formosa Petrochemical Corp has reduced run rates at its 1.03 mln tpa naphtha cracker in Mailiao to 70% due to a small fire leading to equipment. It will take a week for the plant to return to full utilisation rate, as per Reuters, at a time when the naphtha market is flushed with abundant supplies amid lacklustre demand. Inventory levels of the light distillate at Formosa will also trend higher with the temporary outage, further dampening demand.
Formosa's number three cracker with a capacity of 1.2 mln tpa is currently undergoing a scheduled maintenance, till the end of September.
