Shell is planning a four week turnaround at its 375,000 m tpa Geismar, Louisiana, monoethylene glycol unit this month or in April, sources said in Platts. The maintenance has been pushed back from February and might be delayed further. "Shell routinely plans maintenance on its assets in an effort to ensure we continue to operate in a safe and reliable manner," spokesman Ray Fisher said Monday."In keeping with our disclosure policy, we cannot provide details with respect to upcoming or ongoing planned maintenance, specific activities being performed, how long it will take to complete the maintenance or information on supply," he added.
The US market has shown signs of tightness on planned maintenance outages and a force majeure. Dow Chemical is planning a turnaround this month at its 400,000 m tpa unit in Seadrift, Texas, sources say. Additionally, Indorama Ventures has declared force majeure on MEG and ethylene oxide deliveries from its Clear Lake, Texas, plant, according to a filing by the company. The plant has a capacity of 550,000 m tpa of EO and MEG, according to the company website. The required work might not be completed until late this month or in April, a source said.
