Sibur mulls new petrochemical hub in western Siberia

Russian chemical giant Sibur is considering plans to build a new 1.5 mln tpa ethylene plant and a 2 mln tpa polymer plant in Tobolsk, western Siberia, as per plasteurope.com. This project is subject to approvals from Sibur’s board of directors, a final decision for which will be taken in 2012. Group member Tobolsk-Polymer is reported to be on track to construct a new 500,000 tpa PP complex at the same location. If approved, the regions’ abundant natural gas reserves will feed the new petrochemical hub.
