On the first day of the year, Sinopec Group has opened all facilities at its new 100,000 bpd refinery in the southern coastal city of Beihai, including crude pre-treating, catalytic cracking, delayed coking, continuous reforming, diesel and gasoline hydrotreating and other functions, as per Reuters. Construction of the plant began in March 2010, and testing of crude oil unit started in late September. The refinery, integrated with a 200,000 tpa polypropylene unit, will first run higher quality sweet crude from West Africa, though it is designed to treat sour crude.
