Saudi International Petrochemical Company (SIPCHEM) is preparing to build a new acetyls complex in the Gulf industrial city of Jubail. Saudi British Bank and HSBC would be financial advisers for the project, which would include a 2.65-million tpa carbon monoxide plant and is expected to start operating in 2008.
SPICHEM's International Methanol Company started commercial production at its one million tpa methanol plant in Jubail, in December 2004. SIPCHEM is a partner with Japan Arabia Methanol Company, a consortium led by Mitusi and Co. A SIPCHEM affiliate is also building a 75,000 ton butanediol plant in Jubail, expected to start production in the fourth quarter of this year.
