Slovnaft, the Slovakian offshoot of Hungarian oil and gas producer MOL Group, has reached made progress with its major polymer capacity upgrade and expansion program, as per European Plastics News. At the heart of its €300 mln investment program is a project to construct a new low density polyethylene (LDPE) line using Lyondell Basell technology, to boost its polyethylene production to 220,000 tpa. Work on LDPE4, which will replace the firm’s existing seven PE lines, began last year and the line is scheduled to be operating by November next year. This month Slovnaft is installing 28 new LDPE storage tanks with total capacity for 13,500 tonnes, from the German supplier TALKE, at the plant site in Bratislava, Slovakia.
Around €200 mln will be invested in establishing the new PE line. The remaining €100 mln will be towards reconstructing and upgrading the site’s ethylene plant and providing necessary infrastructure including ethylene and PE storage silos and packaging facilities. The latter includes a new storage and packing warehouse along with new loading ramps for the product expedition and transport system, according to Slovnaft.
