SOL Embalagens, one of the leading plastic processing companies in Brazil, and Braskem, Latin America's leading petrochem company, has developed and patented a new concept of disposable boxes. It is an easy-to-assemble, 100% polypropylene box that offers excellent cooling and high durability, allowing reutilization with easy cleanliness for fruits and meat products market. According to the companies, the polypropylene boxes do not absorb humidity leading to weather resistance, unlike the material traditionally utilized in this market, which crumbles and becomes proper for microorganism proliferation. These boxes are extremely light and feature on-screen injection structure thereby favouring heat exchange for cooling, leading to lower power consumption compared to the boxes usually traded in the segment. SOL is responsible for the production and trading of these boxes in the market and Braskem is the technology and research owner and supplier of the polypropylene solution.
The target of the new product is the fruit/vegetable/poultry segment of high added value, for instance the exported products that have to fulfill stringent sanitary requirements. Besides this market, the boxes can also be utilized in many other segments in the domestic market, due to its versatility and quality, such as for meat products, as it offers considerable reduction of power consumption, which is made possible by an easier heat exchange, due to the screen that involves the box. SOL Embalagens worked for two years in researches with Braskem, in the company's Technology and Innovation Center laboratories, in Triunfo, Rio Grande do Sul. As per lab studies and structural simulations, the 100% PP boxes enables lower freezing power consumption and better use of the transporter load capacity, offers easy and fast assembly and is fully recyclable after use.
