Teknor Apex Company has recently made available a resource guide in an expandable ring binder with extensive data on each of 33 Medalist™ high-purity elastomer compounds for healthcare applications, as it will be announced by the company's Thermoplastic Elastomer Division at MD&M West (Booth 2033). Teknor Apex is offering the binder to qualified OEMs, designers, and plastics processors in the medical device and healthcare product industries. Each binder is registered to a specific recipient, who will receive updates with new test results and data on new Medalist grades as they become available.
The tabbed sections of the binder include a grade selector plus data on toxicology, sterilization, chemical resistance, physical properties, processing parameters, process guidelines, and design considerations. According to the company, complete information in all of these categories will be available for each of the 33 Medalist elastomer grades currently available. This initial range of 33 Medalist compounds includes grades with Shore A hardness from 5 to 87. Clear, translucent, and opaque formulations are available. The compounds fall into three series: Versatile Series (MD-100), whose widely differing grades meet many requirements encountered in medical manufacturing; Resilient Series (MD-200), formulated for enhanced toughness, oil-resistance, or heat-resistance; and Bondable Series (MD-300), for over-molding onto a variety of thermoplastic substrates.
