UAE plans world's largest petrochemical complex

In a bid to further diversify its economy, Abu Dhabi plans to develop the world's largest petrochemical complex. Abu Dhabi's International Petroleum Investment Company (IPIC) has partnered with the Abu Dhabi Investment Council (ADIC) and Austria-based plastics producer Borealis to develop the project's first phase, scheduled for completion in 2013. The multi-billion dollar Chemical Industrial City, will comprises a world-scale naphtha cracker, downstream propylene and ethylene derivatives, as well as a world-scale reformer, xylene, benzene, cumene, phenol and derivatives units.
