Industrial supply company Air Products and Chemicals Inc. on Friday (April 4), marked the completion of a US$1 bln hydrogen pipeline project that will triple amount of hydrogen the company can deliver to customers in south Louisiana. Hydrogen is a key raw ingredient in the refinery and petrochemical industry. In addition to the pipeline expansion, the investment includes the construction of four new hydrogen plants along the Mississippi River from Baton Rouge to the greater New Orleans area. The 600-mile hydrogen pipeline - one of the world's largest - runs from Houston to Lake Charles to New Orleans.
Air Products Senior Vice President Steve Jones said in statement the infrastructure spending was necessary to bring the company and its product closer to key customers. The Allentown, Pa.-based company supplies gases, equipment and technology to a wide array of industrial customers worldwide. "We have an absolute need to be close to our customers, and along with working closely with the refinery and petrochemical industry around the world, a large portion of our refinery hydrogen business is in the Gulf Coast and specifically in Louisiana," Jones said. "We've grown our presence with our customers and continue to look for additional investment and business opportunities in the state."
