Fashion Response to Ocean Plastics Waste

Huntsman have produced a range of eyewear made solely from 100% recycled ocean plastic in collaboration with Sea2See, an innovative Spanish organization.

The Barcelona-based See2Sea has secured agreements with many ports in Catalonia, Spain & coastal areas of Ghana and Senegal They obtain discarded marine plastic waste such as fishnets, ropes, lines, or bottles from the ocean that is then turned into fashionable sunglasses.

In addition to direct environmental impact, this offers a new source of income to the fishing communities.

The process involves manually separation of different types of waste which is recycled and reused as raw material. 90% of what is collected is recycled. Of this 25% of the polymer collected is used to manufacture fashion frames

Plastic waste is then up-cycled into reusable raw material. The fundamental characteristic of this up-cycling process is the use of waste to create new plastic by it. Waste is therefore an integral part of the supply chain. The frames are hand painted after moulding,  making their products similar but not identical.

This is truly a feel good fashion eyeware from Recycled Plastics for Conscious Consumer
