New product and new enduse innovations for entrepreneurs in plastics industry includes High Density Polyethylene (HDPE) Pipes as Manholes One vertical HDPE pipe of 1 metre Outer Diameter drilled into a horizontal HDPE pipe of 1 metre Outer Diameter. New product as well as new end use innovations would bring in expansions related to each manufacturing process of plastics, as well as help manufacturers achieve a safety net for their business for a period of above 15-20 years. These manufacturers would have the flexibility of switching from one end use to another end use which in turn will help in increasing the selling price of the final product, bringing in a higher net profitability and lower payback periods in comparison to existing business. This would also help manufacturers make products for new end uses without an investment on plant and machinery and also without much investment in marketing of the products with new end use innovations. Plastics, and its inherent characteristics of waterproof ness, longevity, cost benefits with an extremely high market potential in the country would bring about the innovations of innovators. HDPE Pipes (1 metre Outer Diameter) as Manhole would involve extremely safe covers preventing accidents from occurring with safety closing devices made up of plastics. Also, theft of plastic covers would not take place with an extremely low resale value of plastic covers. Plastic manholes made up of HDPE pipes of 900 mm outer diameter or 1 metre outer diameter could be used which would involve an extremely high long life and would be one of the most long lasting product. Plastics would rank as one of the top ranking material because of its long lasting nature which would involve a life of between 50 years and 100 years such as HDPE Pipes. In India it is estimated that 17% of the urban population currently has no access to any sanitary facilities at all, while 50-80% of wastewater is disposed off without any treatment. Conventional sewerage consists of a closed system of pipes, manholes and pumping stations (in flat areas) which takes wastewater from domestic and other properties to disposal or treatment facilities (Source : http://urbanindia.nic.in/programme/uwss/slb/Urban_Sanitation.pdf). Delhi has about 48 lakh buildings, 3 lakh manholes and nearly 17,000 kilometres of running road length (Source : http://mycoordinates.org/gis-21) . In Chennai, the sewerage network spreads across 2,800 kms with 80,000 manholes at every 35 metres. There are different sizes of sewer main ranging from 150 mm to 1000 mm and the total length of sewer main in the city is 2671 kms, and there are about 78,861 manholes in the sewerage system, and the total number of house connections in the system are 5,63,094. (Source : http://lawyersclubindia.com/blog/show_past.asp?blog_posts_id=670) The minimum wall thickness of 1000 mm Diameter is 25.8 mm. It weighs 76.3 kg/mt. There is no standard rule for Manhole in sewerage line. The distance between two manholes is generally 12 mtr. Additional manholes are provided at all junctions.
