30-Sep-26 From lightweight polypropylene dairy packs and PET bottles to thermoformed trays, PCR integration and PPWR-ready designs, Amcor's CibusTec portfolio highlights the industry's shift toward packaging that combines performance, recyclability and material efficiency
Amcor will showcase a broad portfolio of rigid packaging, closures and specialty formats for the food and beverage industry at CibusTec 2026, to be held from 27–30 October at Fiere di Parma, Italy.
The portfolio is particularly relevant at a time when food and beverage producers are being asked to achieve several objectives simultaneously: reduce material consumption and carbon footprint, incorporate recycled content, improve recyclability and comply with evolving packaging regulations, while maintaining packaging performance and filling-line efficiency.
Amcor says its CibusTec presentation will also demonstrate its expertise in post-consumer recycled (PCR) integration, recyclability validation and responsible packaging design, with solutions intended to help European customers navigate the requirements of the EU Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR).
UniPak Luma: lightweight polypropylene packaging takes centre stage
One of the key products at the Amcor stand will be UniPak Luma, a newly launched lightweight packaging platform made entirely from polypropylene (PP).
UniPak Luma is designed as a scalable round-container platform for cold- and ambient-filled dairy products, as well as chilled and dry foods. Amcor describes the pack as recycle-ready in markets where appropriate polypropylene collection and recycling infrastructure is available.
The platform is an extension of Amcor's UniPak range and follows the company's development of a lightweight 1 kg dairy pot introduced earlier this year.
That earlier UniPak pot provides useful insight into the engineering direction behind the range. Amcor stated that the pot and lid together weigh 31.6 grams in the standard-material configuration, with a potential up to 9% reduction in carbon emissions compared with the previous container at anticipated production volumes. The design is entirely PP and was developed to retain robustness, filling-line compatibility, top-load performance and tamper evidence despite the reduction in material.
The 1 kg pot is available in different shapes and sizes, while common lid diameters can help simplify inventories and supply chains. Amcor also highlights pallet-utilisation optimisation as part of the packaging design.
The significance of UniPak Luma therefore goes beyond simply using less plastic. The engineering challenge is to remove polymer without compromising filling, sealing, handling, transport and product protection.
Lightweight PET bottles and jars for multiple food and beverage applications
Another major part of the CibusTec display will be Amcor's portfolio of lightweight PET bottles and jars.

PET continues to be attractive to food and beverage manufacturers because it combines low weight, durability, transparency and established recycling infrastructure in many markets.
Amcor has also demonstrated the use of recycled PET (rPET) in packaging. In an earlier application, the company developed bottles made from 100% recycled PET for a beauty brand while maintaining the desired appearance and functionality of the package.
Thermoformed trays and cups for yoghurt, snacks and ready meals
Amcor's CibusTec portfolio will also include thermoformed trays and cups designed for products such as yoghurt, snacks and ready meals.
These applications place demanding requirements on packaging. A pack must provide adequate mechanical strength, food protection and shelf-life performance while also being suitable for high-speed production.
Thermoformed packaging is therefore another area where lightweighting has to be balanced against stiffness, dimensional stability, sealing performance and transport protection.
Sustainability moves from material choice to packaging-system design
Perhaps the most important aspect of Amcor's CibusTec presentation is that the company is not positioning sustainability as a single material substitution.
Its announcement specifically refers to:
PCR integration, recyclability validation, responsible packaging design and PPWR-aligned packaging selection.
Amcor's wider EcoGuard portfolio groups solutions according to sustainability attributes including recycle-ready packaging, lower-carbon packaging, recycled content and bio-based materials.
Its broader product portfolio also includes AmPrima recycle-ready mono-material flexible packaging, AmLite HeatFlex recycle-ready high-barrier packaging and AmSky PVC- and aluminium-free blister packaging.
What does Amcor's CibusTec portfolio mean for the Indian packaging industry?
Lightweight PP packaging
The UniPak Luma approach is relevant to India's very large yoghurt, dairy and food-container market, where PP is already extensively used in injection-moulded packaging.
Lightweight PET
Bottles and jars for beverages, dairy products and sauces are important applications for Indian PET processors, and continued lightweighting can reduce both resin consumption and logistics costs.
PCR integration
As recycled-content requirements and EPR obligations evolve, the ability to incorporate consistent-quality PCR while maintaining packaging performance is becoming increasingly important.
Mono-material structures
The move toward mono-material PP packaging reflects a broader industry effort to simplify packaging structures and improve recyclability.
Packaging validation
Perhaps most importantly, the shift toward recyclability validation means that future packaging decisions are likely to involve more than simply choosing a polymer. Compatibility of the complete package — including lids, labels, closures, coatings and other components — increasingly matters.
