A fire that broke out on Tuesday evening at Maoming refinery has forced closure of two ethylene units with total capacity of over 1 mln tpa. The refinery is Sinopec's second largest in terms of capacity. It was not clear if anyone was injured or killed in the blaze most likely caused by lightning. The fire broke out at the 640,000 tpa which was connected to another unit with 380,000 tpa capacity. Both had to be closed, with no date specified for reopening.
