600,000 tpa PTA plant construction goes underway in Poland

As the demand for purified terephthalic acid (PTA) in western Europe is set to augment by 6% through 2010, Poland's PKN Orlen has initiated the construction of 600,000 tpa plant for PTA. To be built at an investment outlay worth Euro 1.16 bln, the plant is to be located at Wloclawek, Poland. PKN Orlen has signed a licensing agreement with Mitsubishi Chemical to use the latter's technology at the Wloclawek-based plant. The PTA plant will start operation by second half of 2010.
