SABIC Innovative Plastics' Exatec** team has developed a novel computer aided engineering (CAE) method to model the two-component injection-compression molding (2K ICM) process which is expected to go a long way to lessen stress and increase optical quality in polycarbonate (PC) auto glazing. With this CAE development, the users will be able to accurately predict their injection-compression molding process thereby achieve better quality lightweight glazing from Lexan* polycarbonate with both wet and plasma coats. The computer-predicted results have been correlated with real-life trials of the ICM process by a prototype roof.
This CAE simulation method for 2K ICM will be promising for progresses in the design, aerodynamics and use of lightweight materials once the use of transparent PC surfaces increase.
