Chennai Petroleum Corp mulls 15 mln tpa grassroot refinery cum petrochemical complex

Chennai Petroleum Corp Ltd (CPCL) is currently holding discussions with TIDCO to identify about 3,000 acres of land at Ennore for expansion plans that include petrochemical projects and a 15 mln tpa grassroot refinery cum petrochemical complex with Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. The 10% capacity boost is being planned at the existing propylene plant from the current level of 30,000 tpa. For tapping the full potential of the propylene available in LPG stream form, an additional 50,000 tpa propylene recovery unit is proposed to be set up at the Manali refinery. Work is underway on the new crude oil pipeline from Chennai Port to Manali Refinery, and is expected to be completed in 12 months, subject to clearances from the Chennai Port Trust. Plans will be cemented upon completion of pre-feasibility studies of this project that are currently under progress. The estimated cost of the project is Rs 45,000 crore.
