Japanese ethylene production jumped 33.7 in January 2010 vs January 2009, in line with healthy demand from China. Ethylene output totalled 670,100 tons last month, up from 501,300 tons a ago as per the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry. The export volume of ethylene soared 45.1% to 233,200 tons in December from a year earlier. The January export figures have not yet been released. Ethylene is used to produce polyethylene in South Korea, Japan and Taiwan, which is then exported to China.
