Kuwait Petroleum International Co. and Pertamina have inked a memorandum of understanding to carry out a feasibility study of more than tripling the capacity of the Balongan oil refinery in Java to 425,000 bpd from 125,000 bpd. The increased capacity will aid in reduced dependence of Pertamina on imported fuel amid rising energy consumption in Southeast Asia’s biggest economy. The cooperation also involves a study of the construction of an “integrated” petrochemical complex and “downstream marketing activities.
