18-Sep-08
In a bid to strengthen its polyamide business, Lanxess plans to expand caprolactam production capacity at it's 200,000tpa Antwerp plant by 10% in the next two years at an investment of €35 mln. Caprolactam is an important raw material in the manufacture of PA 6. In conjunction with the ongoing measures to improve efficiency, the investment will further improve the competitiveness of this site, and safeguard the backward integration in a scenario where rising feedstock prices are playing a major role. 50% production from Antwerp is utilized a feedstock in the production of polyamides from its Durethan family. These products are mainly used in the production of heavy-duty plastic components such as in the automotive industry.
