One of the world's largest polymer companies, Bayer MaterialScience has set underway a 20,000 mtpa polyurethane dispersions (PUD) production plant at an integrated site in Shanghai. Bayer MaterialScience now therefore has facilities in North America, Europe and Asia for these key raw materials for manufacturing environmentally friendly, waterborne coating systems and adhesives. The Shanghai PUD plant is a part of company's role to strengthen its long term presence in Aisa and increasingly supply to the rapidly growing Asian market. Also, this reinforces the company's leading position in the polyurethane raw materials market.
The production of PUD in Shanghai reflects significant increase in environmental awareness that has also recently become evident in China. The products in question form an important basis for manufacturing waterborne and thus low-emission paints, coatings and adhesives for a variety of applications. The Coatings, Adhesives, Specialties (CAS) Business Unit has also invested heavily in its Polymer Research & Development Center in Shanghai to provide state-of-the-art analytical processes, ensuring high, consistent product quality and offering customers locally-based, cutting-edge technical support. High-quality products and comprehensive know-how thus deliver innovative, customer oriented system solutions.
