MCC's ethylene plant & reactor in Kashima resumes work

20-Sep-08
Japan's Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation (MCC) has declared the restart of operations at its Kashima-based No.2 ethylene plant and No.7 reactor from Sep 17, 2008. Imperfections in the refrigeration equipment had led to shut down of the ethylene plant as a safety measure. MCC also affirmed that No.7 reactor that had closed-down in December last year has been set underway after obtaining permission from safety authorities. Nevertheless, the situation of No.8 reactor at Kashima was too critical for resuming operations and is not expected to kick off operations soon enough. MCC is slated to operate at 80-85% production capacity in the near future.
