Nokia is all set to launch around 40 new green mobile phone models this year, in a bid to make mobile phones biodegradable. The company plans to use biodegradable phone covers and recyclable battery designs as they contain less toxic materials.
Biomaterials like polylactic acid (PLA) plastics with plant or other biomass-based modifiers if used in the mobile phone will help reduce the use of non-renewable materials. Nokia also aims to establish the culture of refurbishment or recycling of mobile phone and its components in India.
In addition to this, the company also aims to reduce the energy consumed by mobile charger when it is left in a live power socket, by upto 50 percent by 2010.
